louis was old and forced to fight because of what the IRS did..... if anyone seriously thinks that rocky would have beat a young or mid aged louis is crazy.... watch the guys that louis use to fight in his prime rocky dont even come close..... ive got nothing against rocky infact i feel for him he had a hard life himself but its rediculous to put him as one of the best heavyweights and some even say he was the best ever?

I remember the first time I watched that, such a badass knockout. The way it happens looks like something from a movie. The Great White Hope, what a fighter.

rocky is pretty awesome but louis looked old and slow like ali in later years. I think a young louis would have taken him out!

rocky was 5'10 189 pounds

I think a Rocky/Joe Louis fight - if both were in their primes- would have gone similar to the Ali/Frazier trilogy. I see EITHER one winning 2 out of 3. And all 3 fights would have been close and grueling. I doubt that it would have been a 3 win sweep for either The Rock or Brown Bomber.

He did fight the best heavyweights at that time. Bigger heavies came afterwards and of course he would have had a devil of a time staying undefeated against Liston, Ali, and Foreman.

batmanboyman (8 hours ago), Well if Marciano was really a cruiserweight then you can say he was brilliant for that weight. But in heavyweight terms he was lucky he didnt get the best heavyweights in the ring with him. Patterson also a LightHeavy/cruiser. But unfortunately for him, he had to deal with far more dangerous real heavyweights like Liston and the rest. Cus D'Mato tried to keep him away from the dangerous fighters but Patterson decided to take the risk due to the criticism from public.

Joe Calzaghe is a complete fraud. His fight against RJJ was fixed. Watch Jones carefully in that fight in the first half and you will see what i am talking about. AS for Hopkins, Calzaghe lost and the judges cheated Hopkins.

The reason people see Marciano as great is he did all that destruction at 5'9 and 180 and had maybe a 70 inch reach! You have to admit he was extremely durable to be able to keep all those fights in close. I would say he was the best cruiserweight of all time though.
