In my chemistry class, we put potassium in a big bowl of pure water and yes it lit up and it was on fire and moving around but... it wasn't so reactive to the point it blew up like it did in the video.

Jeepers, you guys are a lot of fun! Thanks for teaching in this very accessible and enjoyable way! I can learn a LOT from you. Ummm, is this Online College? LOL! THANKS!

so if potassium is so terribly reactive, how can you have it in your body and it be in all sorts of vitamins and foods and such? Is that because it's always in a compound form?

man this stuff is so interesting, honestly I can't imagine being born 30 years earlier and having to grow up without having such easy access to all the information I ever wanted. These little videos tell you so many cool things about something that would normally be considered really boring technical stuff, really great videos I must say

its not potassium that burst into flames it is NaK, an amalgum of Sodium (Na) and Potassium(K) which is a liquid and therefor does not form a protective oxide layer to prevent it from being directly exposed to the water in the air. As it is a liquid I doubt you would have much luck shooting it with slingshot, but if you found a way I'm sure you would have a pretty cool fireball flying through the air.

i would burst into flames

if potassium bursts into falmes befor it hits the ground, if you put it in a slingshot what would it do?
