Jennifer Holliday "And I Am Telling You"

A performance of "And I Am Telling You" by the ORIGINAL Effie, Ms. Jennifer Holliday. She blows away almost anyone else in modern times with this performance, securing herself a rightful place amongst this era's greats (Aretha, Whitney, Ella, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Mahalia Jackson). From the 1982 Tony Awards, where she won the award for Best Actress for her creation and portrayal of Effie in the then-breakout smash musical "Dreamgirls." The scene and preceding song lead up to "And I Am Telling You," which begins at around 3.25, but the whole scene is an invaluable look at what Jennifer Holliday was really made of (And she's only 21 here?!?) And to think she performed this EVERY night for TWO YEARS straight... Wow. Let's see Whitney, Christina, Mariah, or anyone else do that!

OMG!!! I saw and LOVED the 2006 version in the cinemas. But this...omg...I had no idea they actually took the same song and sequence from the play into the movie...the original Effie, Lorrell and Deena must have been freaking amazing...imagine...all that in one scene!

For those of you making fun of her singing faces, every singer makes faces haha. I had to sing Der Holle Rache from the opera the Magic Flute, and I looked like a damn fool on those high notes!! haha But hey, it makes her sound amazing, right??! =D

I agree....that's more than amazing, nothin' short of amazing. On one part of the video, where she sang," And time and time we had so much to share", it looked like she was about to pull his suit off!!!
